Ages: 13 & up
Coaches: George Mersinger
Goals: The Silver group is intended for
middle and high school age athletes wanting to take part in a training program
to become competitive swimmers. Improvement of stroke technique is greatly
stressed, as well as, physical conditioning, weight lifting, and aerobic
endurance.
Swimmers will be exposed to interval and endurance training and will be able to
read and follow a pace clock. Swimmers at this level should be striving to
attain Junior Olympic and Sectional cuts in their respective events. Swimmers
will learn how to effectively swim all four strokes by mastering the drills and
reasoning behind each drill. They will also learn flip-turns, race starts and
finishes for each stroke. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in as many swim
meets as possible in order to reinforce what is learned at practice. Good
attendance is very important.
Competition: Swimmers will participate in ABC,
BC and Sub J.O. meets throughout the year and the end-of-season Division II and
Junior Olympic Championships. Other regional or national meets may also be
attended if the swimmer reaches the required time standards.
Required Practice Equipment: kickboard,
pull-buoy, fins, paddles (see coach for sizing), goggles, water bottle, drag
suit and running shoes.
Required Meet Equipment: team suit, Comets
yellow & blue t-shirts, yellow team cap (if cap is desired) and goggles that are
appropriate for use when diving from competition blocks.
