Meteorites
Ages: 8-12 years old
Coach: Luis Soler
Goals: To
introduce the new swimmer to the proper mechanics of swimming by engaging in a
multitude of drills designed to teach proper technique. Swimmers will learn how
to effectively swim all four strokes. They will also learn flip-turns, race
starts and finishes for all four strokes. Swimmers are expected to compete in at
least one competition per month in order to reinforce what is learned at
practice and develop crucial race experience. Swimmers will be exposed to
interval and endurance training and will be able to read a digital and analog
pace clock. Swimmers at this level should be looking to attain Junior Olympic
(J.O.) qualifying times. Good attendance including Saturday practice is looked
at prior to consideration for advancement. Attendance at a minimum of four
practices per week is expected.
Competition: Swimmers will participate in ABC,
BC, & Sub J.O. meets throughout the year and the end-of-season Division II
championships.
Required Training Equipment: Kick board,
pull-buoy, fins, goggles and running shoes (for days when swimmers perform
calisthenics and dry-land exercises).
Required Meet Equipment: Team suit, Comets
yellow & blue t-shirts, yellow team cap (if cap is desired) and goggles that are
appropriate for use when diving from the competition blocks.
Note: If you intend to stop
swimming for more than 30-days you must inform the swim office of your intention
in writing. You can download the Leave of absence/withdraw form from the page.
